Build your own Redwood Time drumkit

  • Larry Spring Museum of Common Sense Physics 225 East Redwood Avenue Fort Bragg, CA, 95437 United States (map)

Under the guidance of Bio-sound artist Scott Kidall (https://kildall.com), with help from Anne Beck (https://annebeckprojects.com) participants will collect materials such as acorns, sticks, and leaves along the Pacific Coast Trail. After gathering the materials, the participants will return to the museum and we will use these to make our own instruments such as rattles, stick taps, shakers and more. We will then record each of them, and construct an electronic drum kit.

Each participant will be responsible for an individual component, ie: snare, base etc. in a nature-inspired set of drums. The artist will mix the components and upload it to a central website so that participants can access the group drum kit and play with it ,and share it online.

The community made drum kit will also be incorporated into the Redwood Time soundscape that will accompany the display of the Redwood Round in the exhibition taking place in April 2027.
