The Redwood Time Driftwood Labyrinth, created by artist Nathan Maxwell Cann, will be built from found and discarded wood and assembled into a spiral like the chambers of a shell. Walking it enacts a cycle of death and rebirth, a dance where every turn leads inward to the center, then back out again.
This is a temporary work, assembled after Día de los Muertos, when the veil is thinnest and transformation ripens.
Instructions
The labyrinth is not a maze. There are no tricks or dead ends. It is a single winding path that leads you to the center and back out again.
Bells have been provided for use while traversing the labyrinth and awakening the inner rhythms.
Begin at the entrance on the outside.
Before you enter, take a moment. Breathe. You may set an intention or simply notice how you feel.
Follow the path inward.
Walk at your own pace. There is no right or wrong speed. You may count your steps or let your mind wander along the path. If you meet others along the way, please step aside kindly if needed.
Pause at the center.
This is a resting place. Reflect or simply stand still. Stay as long as you like.
Turn around. Walk the path outward.
The same path will lead you back out. Take note of what has shifted since entering. Notice your breath, your thoughts, your body.
Exit with awareness.
As you step out of the labyrinth, you carry with you whatever you found inside. Take stock of what you left behind and what you acquired.
