Larry Spring Museum window
The Larry Spring Museum celebrates Larry Spring’s DIY Spirit of Amateur Inquiry as a means to open up his collection to new creative possibilities. We imagine the Museum as a constellation of art and science wonders where community engages through collaborative action.
In this spirit, we invite artists, makers and other creative beings to submit a proposal for an installation in the Museum’s street-facing window. Your proposal should incorporate the use of found objects and artifacts and materials from the Larry Spring Museum’s collection and/or should be responsive to the Museum, its history, presence, and collections.
We’re interested in proposals that conceptually explore one or more of the following topic areas: the visualization of math and/or physics, knowledge production through making, the secret life of found objects, electromagnetism, earthly and other worldly treasures, and/or systems of arcane and esoteric knowledge. However, we hold wonder and surprise in esteem, so if you have a strong idea that falls outside those parameters, please share. We’re interested in asking questions we have yet to know.
The Larry Spring Museum will pay up to $50 in material expenses plus a $100 honorarium to selected artists. Each installation will be displayed for four months.
We ask that you share your process and insights virtually and to Museum visitors on-site during the installation process.

Notes on the installation space:
The window is south facing and has UV protection.
The window itself is divided in half with a mullion and contains some text and graphics at mid-point. The left hand window has the words Larry Spring hand painted onto the glass in black and gold. The right hand side has a graphic of a Magnesphere that is hand painted in black and gold.
The interior platform’s installation area are approximately
14 ft long x 3.6 ft wide. The window is approximately 6 ft tall with an additional 2 ft of wall space on top for rigging lighting and other installation elements.
Volunteer
The Larry Spring Museum is a labor of love that depends on the enthusiasm of volunteers. If you are interested in welcoming visitors to the Museum, please send me an email outlining your interest in the collection and your experience as a volunteer.
